Why Progress Beats Perfection (Even in Your Kitchen Drawer)
Does just the thought of replacing all your plastic with safer alternatives make you want to throw your hands in the air and then go take a nap? (All you laid-back moms out there, I see you!)
I’ll be honest—I have a tendency toward the overwhelmed. Life already throws enough demands my way, so the idea of mapping out a complete overhaul to healthier living feels… impossible. But here’s the good news: you don’t have to think all the way through the change. You just have to think through the choice for today.
Confession: in our family, with two teens packing lunches for work, I’m not ready to hand over containers I may never see again. So yes, they often grab old takeout containers. 😏
So yeah, we started small—with a few quart-size Ball jars (super affordable way to introduce glass containers!) and a simple set of three glass bowls that we started using for leftovers and random storage. Later, I scored a big set of glass containers with interlocking lids on sale. Now, what used to be our plasticware drawer is full of glass alternatives.
But here’s the key: it didn’t happen in a day. Or even in a month. It’s been a slow journey, one step here, another step there, and believe me we still have a long way to go.
So don’t overwhelm yourself into doing nothing. Just look around your house and ask, What could I easily replace today? Then keep an eye out for sales to help with tomorrow’s choices. 😉
And remember: your healing journey doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to begin.
